    What is a Tokonoma?

Tokonoma, or Toko, is a uniquely Japanese architectural feature that provides a designated space for displaying art.
This aesthetic focal point of the home may include an Ikebana arrangement, a landscape scroll, bonsai, or
other objects of beauty that together express a three-dimensional story of harmony and transience.
The overall result is an uncluttered sense of upliftment and seasonal connection to nature.
  • Welcome to our Tokonoma

    The slideshow features the latest

Tokonoma arrangements created by our chapter volunteers which are displayed at the

    Japanese Friendship Garden Exhibit Hall

    in Balboa Park, San Diego

    every weekend.
