Shogyoku School of Ikebana
The Shogyoku School of Ikebana was originated by Hoichi Keisetsuan, the first Iemoto ( or Headmaster) in 1901, the 34th year of Meiji. He developed new styles of “Nageire” and “Moribana”, by introducing the good, natural feelings of “Chabana” into traditional ikebana. These new styles of ikebana were named Shogyoku and instructed to “Monjin” ( or pupils) in Tokyo at first. He then went to live in Utsunomiya and built several schools, as he was born and had many sponsors there. Shogyoku developed steadily with increased numbers of pupils and its reputation became known in all the districts of Japan.
The Shogyoku School was chosen one of the best ikebana schools, so it became more famous in Japan. In addition to developing branches throughout Japan and introducing ikebana to many foreign countries, the Shogyoku School is till developing today and expanding further.
